Cat our Secretary and Solo Horn player
Cat started playing the tenor horn sometime during junior school, and, unlike the other interesting, talented players in the band who played other instruments, she couldn't, so got stuck with it. She played with a youth band until she was 18 before flying the nest from her native Stockport up to York St John Uni to follow her dreams of becoming a primary school teacher. Wanting to carry on her playing, she was overjoyed to find a band looking for players - until she went to the first rehearsal. 4 years later she graduated and moved to Preston, where she took the plunge and joined the very friendly and social Darwen Brass. After so long "playing" with the York band whose average age was about 107, it was a relief to join a much younger and livelier band who enjoy a social gathering once in a while (well, quite often, actually). She now teaches reception children in Nelson, and is progressing to learning the triangle and the recorder.
