Jane Hogan our Secretary and Timp player

I was'cajoled' into the role of Timp. player in September 2009 whilst Darwen Brass was rehearsing for a contest in Fleetwood, having never played in a brass band before in my life. I had spent many years singing with local choirs in Great Harwood, Haslingden and the Wilpshire based A Cappella Singers. I come from a musical family, with my parents, all my siblings, in-laws and nephews, singing in choirs, bands and playing instruments of some sort.

I am currently learning to play the tenor horn.Having made the switch from choral to brass banding, I am thoroughly enjoying the experience, especially the successes in contests the band has had since I joined (I do not think that that is just down to me though). The social life is quite good too! Apart from Timps,I have to" dabble on the glock, tambourine, woodblock, Cymbals, triangle and my favourite, the gong. I never realised you could have so much fun "hitting stuff". I play alongside my son Dominic, our principle percussionist, and I feel that "the shed-builders" as we are affectionately known by the band, make a formidable if noisy team.

I am very happy to have been elected Band Secretary.
