Margaret Bennett - 3rd Cornet
Maggie can’t provide a statement which covers years of musical achievements but is working on it..... the story only begins 2 years ago with the Blackburn School of Music and a life-long desire to learn to play cornet – teacher Liz worked wonders and as a result Maggie got involved with the U3A orchestra in Skipton under the musical direction of the legendary conductor and composer Arthur Butterworth.
Playing with the brass section of the orchestra inspired her the following year, with some trepidation, to approach Darwen Brass in response to their Web site“offer of training”, She says, “Its hard work but everyone in the band has been brilliant with their encouragement and expert guidance and it has been amazing for me to be a tiny part of their fantastic achievements this year 2011..... best of all 6 first prizes in the Whit Friday competition.
I am thrilled to be hiding on the back row learning 3rd cornet now, and one day hope to be good enough for a seat on the front row.
